What was your inspiration for your book?

I started writing as a form of catharsis, a dear friend of mine encouraged me all the time to publish. After she passed away, I wanted to honor her life as well as reclaim a date. I had the book published on a specific date so it wouldn’t always be a traumatic date for me. I also wanted to let others know they are not alone, I really hope that my books can help people in similar situations!

Tell me about your writing journey.

My writing journey started 11 years ago at the tender age of 15. The first poems I had ever written were about a cousin I lost. I had a dear friend Dustyn who taught me to write, he too passed away. After his passing, I always have to ask myself what Dustyn would say. It’s been a long winding journey! The Unknown She: Shares Her Soul is written in chronological order so you can see the ups and downs of The Unknown She as they occur. Get ready for the twist!

What are some prevalent themes in your book?

I certainly write a lot about depression, grief/loss, PTSD, and addiction as well as soldiers and some joy.

Who/what are some of your poetic muses?

God and nature.

Tell me about your writing process.

I only write when I’ve been contemplating something or am feeling extreme emotions. I have a unique writing style of writing 2 lines at a time and never actually writing something down until I have it how I want it in my head. I never go back and change anything, I think that would take away from the emotion that’s trying to be conveyed.

What caused the shift in the topics between The Unknown She: Shares Her Soul and She Speaks to the World?

The shift came along with many personal changes, moving, losing my doctor and therapist and having to learn to be more self-sufficient all while learning to lean more on God.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

I have a second poetry book that is releasing on July 12, 2016! It’s titled She Speaks: To the World –this book is a continuation of The Unknown She: Shares Her Soul! There are a lot of twists and turns as well as a large shift in the topics and how the situations were dealt with. She Speaks is currently available for pre-order on PREORDERS RECEIVE FREE SHIPPING IN THE UNITED STATES! 🙂 I hope you will join me on the journey!
