Heart of Hercules & Helios (poem)

I’d like to unload
a poem onto this page
in hopes that my heavy
heart will alleviate.

But don’t you know?
Sometimes, hearts
need to sink
into trenches,
only to climb out,
gain muscle,
and become

Hercules.

I’d like to liquefy
my worries
and send them
into my quill pen,
And as the ink spills
upon parchment,
my heart fills with a lightness
only the wind could understand.

But don’t you know?
Sometimes, hearts
need to create igloos
to protect themselves
from frigid mishaps,
only to expand
and become

Helios.

*Helios: the personification of
the Sun in Greek mythology.
