Stoneheart (poem)

The part of me I won’t ever get back
is a fossil in your stoneheart,
You were the fossil fuel I needed
to burn
to finally be set free
like a canary who missed getting
its wings clipped and had only
one limit in mind: the sky, the cosmos;
the place forever lit by the stars
we won’t get to see together
ever again.

I glided from planet to planet
to find the archaeologist
who was brave enough to excavate your core,
or better yet, an alchemist
who could take that rocky organ
and make it golden,

then the memory of us deeply tucked away
would be a valuable,
not a waste.

Alas, I’ve been floating in the wastelands of outer space,
And while the silence deafens and the darkness swallows,
Mirages of your face are asteroid-collision loud.

  1. Very beautiful. I’ve had too many relationships like that. I had one lover tell me he wanted to be with me, open his heart to me and that he’d fight that every step if the way. I don’t put up with that anymore 🙂
